Critical Illness Support

with Craniosacral Therapy

When a child is living with cancer, an autoimmune condition or another serious or long-term illness, daily life can become difficult for the whole family. Alongside hospital appointments and medical treatment, some families look for gentle ways to give their child time to rest, feel reassured and experience a calm environment.

Craniosacral Therapy is a complementary, light-touch therapy. Marissa offers child-led appointments adapted around each child’s comfort, energy and individual circumstances. There is no pressure to talk, remain still or continue with hands-on work if the child needs a break or wants the appointment to stop.

Craniosacral Therapy does not diagnose or treat cancer, autoimmune conditions or any other illness, and it is not a substitute for medical care. If your child is receiving treatment or is under a consultant, please speak to their medical team before booking. Marissa will also ask about their health, current treatment and any guidance provided by their clinicians before deciding whether an appointment is appropriate.

What Families Say

Frequently Asked Questions

Critical Illness Support

Can my child have Craniosacral Therapy alongside medical treatment?
Craniosacral Therapy may be considered as complementary wellbeing support, but it does not replace medical treatment or advice. If your child is receiving treatment for a serious or long-term illness, please obtain guidance from their consultant or medical team before booking.
Should I speak to my child’s medical team first?
Yes. Please speak to your child’s medical team if they are undergoing active treatment, have recently had a procedure or are being monitored for a serious condition. Any advice, precautions or restrictions they provide should be shared with Marissa before an appointment.
Can Craniosacral Therapy treat cancer or an autoimmune condition?
No. Craniosacral Therapy does not diagnose, treat or cure cancer, autoimmune conditions or any other illness. Appointments are offered only as complementary support, providing a calm environment for relaxation, comfort and general wellbeing alongside appropriate medical care.
What if my child feels tired or unwell on the day?
Please contact Marissa before attending. The appointment may be adapted or postponed depending on how your child is feeling and any guidance from their medical team. Your child should not attend if their clinicians have advised against it or if they have symptoms of an infectious illness.
What happens during my child’s first appointment?
The appointment begins with a relaxed conversation about your child’s general wellbeing, current medical care and any guidance from their clinicians. There is no pressure to begin hands-on work immediately. Any light-touch work is guided by your child’s comfort and willingness.
Will my child need to remain still?
No. Children do not have to remain completely still. Marissa follows their cues and allows time for movement, conversation, breaks or reassurance. Your child can ask to pause or stop at any time.
Does Craniosacral Therapy involve manipulation?
No forceful manipulation is used. Craniosacral Therapy takes a gentle, light-touch approach. Whether an appointment is appropriate will depend on your child’s health, current treatment and any advice provided by their medical team.
How many appointments might I need, and how do I book?
There is no set number of appointments because every child and medical situation is different. You will not be asked to commit to a course of treatment. If your child is receiving medical treatment, obtain approval from their medical team and contact Marissa before booking.
